Campaigns
CFAB is a proactive charity. We act. Not only do we directly help to protect children and families, we also learn from our direct casework and this informs us of national policies and procedures that act against the best interests of children and families.
CFAB campaigns for change and advises the Government thus ensuring legislation, regulations, policies and procedures support the best interests of children and their families at all times.
Utilising our 50 years of expertise and evidence base, one of our aims as an organisation is to influence international, national and local policies and practices impacting on children, adults and families separated by international borders, and thus contribute to social reform to minimise and/or prevent social/legal/personal problems linked to migration or intercountry mobility.
As well as doing advocacy work with UK practitioners and policymakers, and publishing good practice guidelines, CFAB partners with a number of organisations for national and international campaigns.
Ending Child Detention in the Immigration Process
In August 2010 CFAB were invited to join a working group to devise a way in which the UK government could end the detention of children in the immigration process.
Over the next year CFAB staff worked closely with Citizens UK, UKBA and others to design, implement and oversee the changes and we also helped train UKBA staff in the new way of working.

Private Fostering Campaign
Private fostering is when a child under the age of 16 (under 18 if disabled) is cared for by someone who is not their parent or a 'close relative'.
We are concerned that the present regulations do not adequately address the issue of children privately fostered across international borders. These children are potentially very vulnerable, they may have been trafficked and have no understanding of the laws and systems in the UK, or where to go for help.

Guidelines for the Alternative Care of Children
These Guidelines are intended to enhance the implementation of the UN Convention of the Rights of the Child, in matters of protection and the well-being of children who are in need of alternative care.
