Our National Advice and Information Line is a free and confidential telephone helpline for any enquiries that concern children and family welfare matters and cross international borders.
Introduction
CFAB has launched its very own training roadshow where we will aim to visit as many Local Authorities across the UK to deliver specialist training to staff that work with children and families.
The FREE training will explore good social work practice on international cases.
Training Objectives
- describe and identify cases which require international collaboration & advice
- recognise the child's needs as paramount and begin care planning to reflect international time scales
- give examples of good practice when comparing cultural differences across international borders
- understand the 6 steps to assessment of a child's needs

Introduction:
CFAB is delighted to have received funding todeliver FREE training and support to multi agency professionals on private fostering work across local authorities in the UK.
There are some simple things all professionals can do to identify, safeguard and plan for children from overseas living in private fostering arrangements in your area.
- This training is strongly recommended by the Safeguarding Children's Board.
- CFAB is the only organisation offering this specialist training FREE of charge
Training Objectives:
- Learn about the issues of private fostering
- Identify privately fostered children
- Safeguard children & promote contact
- Train colleagues and participate in sharing best practice

How to book?
To take up this free training please nominate a member of your Local Safeguarding Children Board to download an expression of interest form and return it to christina.turner@cfab.org.uk.
Other benefits include FREE post training and advice to all participants of the training for up to two years. In addition your authority will be invited to participate in the research strand of this project, which will explore in-depth issues for privately fostered children from overseas.
Finally, in 2013/14 we are planning to hold a symposium, followed by an international conference in 2015. Trainee participants will be invited to contribute as delegates and presenters.
The presentation was appreciated by all who attended and verbal feedback on the day was positive with comments about how relevant and interesting the issue of trafficking is. By the end of the session all agreed that they knew much more about the subject.

Introduction
CFAB and Ineqe are delighted to introduce a new online Child Trafficking Training Course. This online training course is free and available to use now. It has been funded by Comic Relief. It has been developed by CFAB in conjunction with INEQE and the Counter Human Trafficking Bureau
Who should take the course?
This training module is intended for all staff who may come across trafficked children. It is designed for Social Workers, Police Officers, Teachers, School Support Staff, Housing Officers, Health Staff, Early Years Workers and NGO Staff. To help reach as many people as possible simply forward this email and links to as many of your staff team, colleagues and partners as possible.

Child Protection Lecture 2012

On 24th April 2012 CFAB held its third annual Child Protection Lecture with guest speakers Lord Ramsbotham and Chris Spencer speaking on
- The treatment of children in the asylum and immigration system
- The first year of the Independent Family Returns Panel
The event welcomed over 70 professionals to the prestigous Governor's House in Monument. Both lectures were very interesting giving all attendees a lot of food for thought.
The lectures were followed on by a lively plenary session giving members of the audience the chance to ask questions and give their views. The evening was a hugely successful and enjoyable evening.

Child Protection Lecture 2011
April 2011
On 4th April 2011 CFAB held its second annual Child Protection Lecture with guest speakers The Rt Hon Baroness Butler Sloss and Jim Gamble speaking on "UK and International responses to child trafficking."
The event welcomed nearly 100 professionals to the prestigous Governor's House in Monument. Both lectures were very inspiring and motivational highlighting the importance of organisations working together on this issue.
The lectures were followed on by a lively plenary session giving members of the audience the chance to ask questions and give their views. The evening was a hugely successful and enjoyable evening.
Child Protection Lecture 2010
April 2010
On 29th April 2010 CFAB welcomed over 60 professionals to Governors House, London for the Inaugural Child Protection Lecture delivered by Lord Laming - a patron himself to the charity.
The event was a huge success for the charity providing a stimulating and thought provoking opportunity for professionals to network and hear from a key figure in the social work arena. Huge thanks go to Lord Laming for such an excellent lecture and to Alex Verdan, QC and Lord Justice Thorpe for participating in the plenary session.
Child Trafficking Symposium
July 2011
On 6th July 2011 CFAB held a Child Trafficking Symposium for professionals to come together to draft new guidelines and regulations to take to Government to better protect children that are trafficked into the UK.
The day was a huge success with expert speakers starting off the day before delegates had round table discussions to come up with new proposals for each stage in a child's journey to the UK.
The recommendations have been sent to the Minister in Government along with a list of supporting organisations. This is the second symposium CFAB has held and we will aim to hold one per year.
CFAB Private Fostering Symposium
October 2010
On 28th October 2010 CFAB hosted a Private Fostering Symposium to bring together professionals in this area to come up with alternative guidelines and recommendations to working with privately fostered children from overseas. The opening address was given by our Patron Lord Laming which set the scene perfectly for the day. Round table discussions took place throughout the event to address certain questions and to come up with recommendations to take to Government. These recommendations were collated at the end of the day.
These recommendations have been sent to the Minister in the Department for Education and we are awaiting back feedback.
CFAB would like to thank all the speakers on the day for thier contribution and for everyone's participation.
