Finding home - a short story by cFAB

Finding Home - Lena's Story

From a very young age, Lena lived with her grandmother in the UK as her parents were alcoholics and unable to look after her.

However, when she was 5, her father demanded to look after her. He took her to Slovakia to live with his new girlfriend. In her new home, Lena was regularly beaten, starved and neglected.

Lena’s father had become involved in illegal activities and was killed in gang violence when Lena was 7. Lena was abandoned and soon after was taken into care.

The Slovakian authorities called CFAB’s Advice Line in the hope of finding Lena’s family. CFAB’s expert inter-country child protection team were able to find Lena’s grandmother and complete all of the necessary checks, paperwork and legal work to ensure Lena would be safe with her. Lena was eventually reunited with her grandmother who was able to provide her with a safe and stable home.
