CFAB Launches 2025 International Child Protection Lecture: From Bias to Better Practice

CFAB launches a timely lecture and panel on anti-discriminatory safeguarding and care planning for children from minoritised and racialised communities.

We are proud to announce the launch of our annual International Child Protection Lecture 2025. This year’s theme, From Bias to Better Practice: Tools for Culturally Competent Safeguarding, will focus on one of the most pressing issues in social work today: anti-discriminatory safeguarding and care planning for children from minoritised and racialised communities.

Strengthening cultural competency in social work is an increasing priority for leaders in our profession, but what does it look like in practice? A child’s race, ethnicity, and culture affect the way they move through the social care system. This is an essential learning session for all professionals working with children and families from minoritised communities.

Our panel will share their expertise on addressing unconscious bias, promoting equitable care planning, and ensuring social work practices promote the well-being of every child. Together, we will explore how to accelerate learning and improve outcomes for children with diverse backgrounds and family connections overseas.

Our dynamic panel of experts includes Sir Andrew Moylan, Head of International Family Justice for England and Wales; Michael Nwoye, dual-qualified Social Worker in Nigeria and England and a member of the CFAB Experts by Experience Group.

Join us on Tuesday 11th November 9:00-11:30am at 10 Paternoster Row, London, EC4M7HP, by booking your place here. Local colleagues are encouraged to join us in person at our wonderful venue and enjoy the networking opportunities and refreshments provided.

This is primarily an in-person event, with a limited number of online spaces available for colleagues based further afield in the North, Scotland, and Wales. If you are based in these regions and would like to attend virtually, please register here.
